Money can('t) buy happiness

Is it bad when I say that I don't agree with the statement money can't buy happiness?
I think money definitely helps me being more happy. Or is it just me, and my spoiled education? Am I to materialistic?

  1. You might be right, but is not everything! The best things in life are always free...

  2. it depends on how you view happiness. if tangible objects like awesome clothes and luxury items can make you happy, then sure money can buy happiness!

but you need to remember too, that happiness can be derived from things that are not tangible like true friendship, familial bonds, and the true beauty of nature. these things can't have a monetary value to them, so yep, money cannot buy happiness all the time! (:

  4. money may/may not buy you happiness, but without money you can't have happiness for sure, put it that way.

  6. I would think of it like this... A person is very very rich. Sure you have your luxuries. But you also start developing fake friends (this will happen no matter what) and much more responsibilities, especially with work. You will always have to be careful about money and protecting your investment from people who try to use you for money to thieves or other things. Or take a person who has a decent income but that person is much happier. Less responsibilities, real friends, less worries. It's the simplicity of life. The rich man sees the poor man walking down the street and is envious of him because he has less worries and appreciates that which he has in life. When a person is rich, they take simple things for granted. So yes money can get you out of a debt or it can get you food yes. But that quote, I think, was meant to be thought of in the long run.

  7. Late reaction, but people made studies about this. It seems that with not enough money to easily survive, people are also not easily happy, although there are... With enough money to be able to buy what you need, people tend to be normally happy... but from a certain level, when you have really loads of money to spend, the happiness level does not rise any more, in a lot of cases even lowers. My conclusion: money can make happy, but too little and too much money can make unhappy too. Oof, I said ;-p
